LA VERNE, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo team opened its trip to California with a 14-7 loss to La Verne on Friday, bringing the team's record to 1-10 overall on the year.
La Verne used a big second quarter to open things up after the teams were knotted at two goals apiece after one. The 'Roos scored twice more in the second quarter, but La Verne netted five goals in the period to make it 7-4 after two. The lead grew to 9-5 after three quarters, and the Leopards used another five goals in the fourth to put the game away. Andrew Pope paced the 'Roos with two goals, adding an assist and two steals, and Brett Skinner, Alex Rodriguez, Kyle Brown, Robert Griffin, and Duran Kittman each found the net once. Andrew Pomier made four saves for Austin College.
The 'Roos are in action again on Saturday as they take on Caltech and Cal Lutheran.
