Vangoss Named Austin College Softball Coach

Andrea Vangoss has been named the new head softball coach for the Kangaroos, athletics director David Norman has announced. Vangoss most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. 

"After a thorough national search we are pleased to welcome Andrea to the Austin College family," said Norman. "She brings tremendous knowledge and experience from her days as a student-athlete and as an assistant coach. We look forward to the continued success of our Kangaroo softball program under Andrea's leadership." 

Vangoss is a 2009 graduate of Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, and received her master's degree from Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2012. While at Concordia, Vangoss served as a graduate assistant for the softball team and directed both camps and clinics. She has also worked as an assistant softball coach at Riverview Community High School in Riverview, Michigan, serving in that capacity from 2005 through 2011. Adding to that coaching experience, Vangoss has worked as an instructor at both the University of Michigan and University of Notre Dame softball camps. 

As a student-athlete at Adrian, Vangoss excelled both on the field and in the classroom as a two-year letter winner and starting pitcher. During her career she threw two no-hitters, five one-hitters, and 10 two-hitters. Prior to playing at Adrian, Vangoss spent two seasons at Macomb Community College, where she helped her team win both a league and state championship. Off the field, she founded and served as the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Adrian and worked to develop community service programs for student-athletes. 

"I am very excited to be a part of 'Roo athletics," said Vangoss. "I felt right at home with the staff, student-athletes, and college during my visit. I am excited to be a part of the Austin College family, and I can't wait to bring my enthusiasm, passion, and knowledge of the game of softball to Sherman." 

Vangoss takes over a program that finished third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division and earned a SCAC postseason berth for the second time in program history in 2012. 

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
