The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against visiting LeTourneau University on Monday afternoon, falling 4-3 in extra innings in game one before defensive miscues led to a 10-4 defeat in game two.
In the first game, the 'Roos jumped out to an early lead when Briana Hernandez singled home Jessica Baker in the bottom of the first, and in the second inning the 'Roos added to more runs when Rachel Ramos and Taylor Steelman came home on an error to make it 3-0. LeTourneau got two runs back in the top of the third, and tied things up in the top of the sixth to force an extra frame.
In the top of the eighth the Jackets took advantage of an error to get the go ahead run to make it 4-3, and the 'Roos would go down in order in the bottom half of the inning to end the game. Baker went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Ramos went 2-for-4 to lead the 'Roos, while Sophia Hernandez went the distance on the mound, surrendering just one earned run in the loss.
In game two the Jackets jumped out to a big lead early, scoring four runs in the first. Mallory Rossmann singled home Sophia Hernandez in the bottom half of the inning to make it 4-1, but the Jackets took advantage of another error to plate two more runs and make it 6-1.
