'Roo Softball Finishes Third at SCAC Tournament
The Austin College softball team topped the University of Dallas 12-4 before falling 10-0 to eventual champion Southwestern on their way to finishing third at the SCAC Tournament on Saturday.
The Austin College softball team topped the University of Dallas 12-4 before falling 10-0 to eventual champion Southwestern on their way to finishing third at the SCAC Tournament on Saturday. The 'Roos finish the season with a record of 11-30.
Against the University of Dallas, the 'Roos jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first on a two run homer by Briana Hernandez, and Jessica baker notched an RBI double in the second before Mary Whitworth added an RBI double in the third to kick off a three run inning and make it 6-1.
Dallas plated three runs in the third to make it 6-4, but six runs came home in the fourth to put the game out of reach at 12-4. Sophia Hernandez, Charlotte Trudell, and Heather Farquhar each had an RBI in the inning and Jessica Baker blasted a three run homer.
Sam Matulis went the distance to earn the victory while Baker finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and Trudell went 3-for-3.
Against Southwestern, the Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and exploded for seven runs in the second to put the lead at 9-0, and one run came home in the third to make it a 10-0 game as Austin College was unable to get any offense going, being limited to three hits in the game. Matulis took the loss, surrendering six runs, five earned, on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work. Baker and Mallory Rossmann each had a double in the loss.
Baker and Whitworth each earned All-Tournament honors for their outstanding play over the weekend.
