SHERMAN, Texas – Bryce Frank scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, surpassing 1,500 career points along the way, and the Austin College women's basketball team topped visiting Schreiner University 75-53 on Friday night in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 15-3 overall and 8-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The 'Roos got out to a sluggish start, going scoreless for more than two minutes until a three-point-play from Caitlyn Collins made it 3-0 with 7:33 left in the opening quarter. After taking a 9-8 lead midway through the quarter, Kacie West buried a triple and Natalie McCoy would make three free throws to send Austin College into the second quarter leading 15-8.
Frank and Ally Longaker combined to score the first 10 points of the second quarter for the 'Roos as Austin College grabbed a 25-13 lead, and Reagan Chiaverini's layup would extend the lead to 31-17 with 3:15 left before halftime. However, Schreiner would score the final eight points of the quarter, trimming the margin to 31-25 at the break.
Ann Savage kicked off the scoring in the second half with a three, and Frank added a bucket to make it 36-25. After Schreiner scored to make it 40-29, Austin College would use an 8-0 run capped by a basket from Frank to go on top 48-29 with 4:36 left in the third quarter. Kacie West's three made it 60-38 with 38 seconds left in the quarter, and Austin College would head into the fourth leading 61-41.
Savage took control early in the fourth, scoring six straight to help Austin College push the lead to 69-43 and the 'Roos would cruise the rest of the way.
Frank scored 13 of her game-high 25 in the third quarter, while West scored 11 points in the third quarter on her way to 14 in the game. Savage added 12 points, four steals, and three assists, and Longaker chipped in 10 points and five boards.
Sydney Williams paced Schreiner with 12 points and added six rebounds, and Alyssa Viera had 11 points and three assists. Miranda Vallejo scored 10 points off the bench for the Mountaineers.
