'Roo Baseball Has Four Named All-SCAC
Four members of the Austin College baseball team have been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for the 2013 season, the league office has announced.
Four members of the Austin College baseball team have been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for the 2013 season, the league office has announced. Tyler Appelquist and Austin Vaughan were each named 1st Team All-Conference, while Travis Gibson and Marshall Korn were named Honorable Mention.
Appelquist, a senior first baseman from Rowlett, was named All-Conference after batting .311 for the season with four doubles and 12 runs batted in. He also scored a team-high 31 runs and had a .341 slugging percentage and a .985 fielding percentage. He also led the team with 15 stolen bases.
Vaughan, a senior outfielder from Rowlett, was named All-Conference after batting a team-high .319 with nine doubles, a home run, and 19 runs batted in. He added 25 runs scored and boasted a .406 slugging percentage while stealing seven bases. Vaughan also had a .973 fielding percentage.
Gibson, a senior outfielder from Emory, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC after batting .307 with five triples, three doubles, and nine runs batted in. Gibson also scored 17 runs and stole seven bases on the year and had a .436 slugging percentage and a .978 fielding percentage.
Korn, a sophomore pitcher from Austin, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC after making 13 appearances with nine starts and tossed two complete games. Korn had a record of 3-4 with a 4.15 earned run average. Korn threw a team-high 65.0 innings and struck out 34 batters, also best on the team.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
