Four from 'Roo Men's Hoops Named All-SCAC
Four members of the Austin College menâs basketball team have been named as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers and Ransom Okpala has been named the leagueâs Defensive Player of the Year, the conference office has announced.
Four members of the Austin College men's basketball team have been named as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers and Ransom Okpala has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Year, the conference office has announced.
Alen Michael, a senior forward from Mesquite, was named Second Team All-SCAC after averaging 9.0 points and 7.1 rebounds this season. His rebounding average was good for the third highest average in the conference, while his scoring average placed him 13th in the league. Michael was also third in the SCAC with a field goal percentage of .491, and led the league with 1.1 blocked shots per game.
Okpala, a junior guard from Katy, was named Third Team All-SCAC as well as the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 10.8 points per game, good for the seventh highest average in the league. Okpala also finished second in the conference in steals per game with an average of 1.7, and boasted a .405 three point percentage. He was also second on the team with 49 assists.
Walter Phillips, a senior forward from Argyle, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC after finishing 15th in the conference with a scoring average of 8.6 points per game and added 5.4 rebounds per game, good for the eighth highest mark in the SCAC. Phillips also shot .484 from the field, good for the fifth best percentage in the conference.
Jordan Hancock, a junior guard from Forney, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC after averaging 8.4 points per game, the 17th highest mark in the conference, and was sixth in the conference with 2.3 assists per game. Hancock was also sixth in the league with 1.2 steals per game.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
