'Roo Softball Drops Two in Home Finale
The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against the University of Texas-Dallas in the team’s home finale on Wednesday evening, falling 8-0 in game one and 11-6 in game two.

The 'Roos fell behind 2-0 after a first inning homer in game one, and the UTD lead grew to 5-0 after a three run third inning. Another homer made it a 6-0 game, and UTD tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it 8-0 and end the game after the 'Roos were unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning.
Sam Matulis took the loss, going the distance and surrendering eight runs on 14 hits, while Jenny Dowsey went 2-for-2 to lead Austin College offensively. For UTD, Avery McHugh hit a pair homers to pace the Comets offensively.
In game two, Briana Hernandez launched a two run homer in the first to put Austin College ahead 2-0 early but UTD scored two runs in the second and three in the third to make it a 5-2 game. Chelsea Delaney hit a solo homer in the third to cut it to a 5-3 game, but three more runs for the Comets in the fourth and then again in the fifth pushed it to an 11-3 game.
Taylor Steelman roped a bases clearing double to cut it to an 11-6 game after five, and the 'Roos managed to load the bases in the sixth but were unable to get any runs across.
Sophia Hernandez tossed a complete game, giving up 11 runs, 10 earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts. Jessica Baker went 3-for-4 to lead the 'Roos offensively and Charlotte Trudell added a pair of hits as eight of the team's nine starters had at least one hit in the game.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
