There are plenty of results to recap as many of our teams were on the road over the break. And we also need to cover how the winter sports teams finished up their seasons before moving into the "home-stretch." Here is your AC Athletics Update!
Women's Basketball
Congratulations are in order for the 2015-16 SCAC Regular Season Conference Champion Women's Basketball Team. This season was an impressive one as Head Coach Michelle Filander led her team to an impressive 18-8 (11-3) record on the year with a wins over several competitive opponents making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season.
Austin College shared the title with Trinity University, and was assigned the #2 seed in the SCAC Conference Tournament as a result of a coin-flip before falling to Schreiner University in the semi-finals 62-61.
With 8 first-year student-athletes coming back to next year's squad, including the reigning Newcomer of the Year Bryce Frank, the Kangaroos look to be trending upward. But first we say thank you to Seniors Chrissy Ray, Bri Harvey, Kayla Linthicum, and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Katie Gowdy for their four years of hard work and dedication to get the program where it is today.
Thank you Seniors, and congratulations on a great season, 'Roos.
Men's Basketball
After starting the year with a 10-0 record, Men's Basketball (16-11; 4-10) struggled to find their footing to open Conference Play, dropping their first 5 contests by an average of 3 points. But after 3-consecutive wins, including an Alumni Day victory over rival Trinity University, the Kangaroos finished their season with a win in the conference tournament, and an overtime loss in the Semifinals against Colorado College.
Three Austin College players earned All-SCAC honors, and Stephen Igbinosa earned the Defensive Player of the Year award.
As we look to the future with many underclassmen matriculating into more experienced leaders on the squad, we say thank you to the lone senior Cedric Hudson who averaged 10.3 points per game in 52 appearances for the Kangaroos.
Thank you Cedric for your dedication to the program and congratulations on a great season to Head Coach Rodney Wecker and the Austin College Men's Basketball Team.
Men's and Women's Tennis
Men's & Women's Tennis is on a 3-match winning streak with their most competitive Division III Tennis Schedule in recent history.
With wins over Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, and a weekend sweep last weekend against Hendrix College and the University of the Ozarks, the Austin College Netters are pushing to build on their regular season success going into the SCAC Championship Tournament in April on the campus of Schreiner University.
Both squads have had their Line 1 Singles and Doubles Player named Conference Player of the Week this season, and with a huge matchup against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this weekend in Belton, TX, the teams look prime for a breakthrough.

Be sure to follow the live-tweet of this weekend's tennis match in Belton by following @ACRoosMWTennis. The Men look to rectify 7-0 and 8-1 losses last year to the Crusaders and the Women hope to make it 3 wins in a row against their ASC opponent.
