Reedy, Thor Named Kedric Couch Coaches of the Year
Ross Reedy and Kirk Thor have been named the Kedric Couch Coaches of the Year, the Austin College athletics department has announced.
SHERMAN, Texas – Ross Reedy and Kirk Thor have been named the Kedric Couch Coaches of the Year, the Austin College athletics department has announced. The award is given annually to a distinguished alumnus who has excelled in the field of coaching at the high school, college, or professional level during the last academic year. This year, Austin College is presenting the award to both a women's athletics coach and a men's athletics coach.
Reedy, a 2004 graduate of Austin College who lettered in football for the 'Roos, was named the women's athletics recipient of the Coach of the Year Award. This past season, he achieved historic success as the girl's basketball coach at Frisco Liberty.
Under Reedy's guidance, Liberty made its first ever appearance in the Texas state tournament, reaching the state championship game and finishing as the 5A runner-up. Reedy was named the Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A-6A Coach of the Year. Liberty finished the season with an overall record of 33-7 under Reedy.
Thor, a 1991 graduate of Austin College who also lettered in football for the 'Roos, was named the men's athletics recipient of the Coach of the Year Award. Like Reedy, Thor also had an historic season in 2015 as the head coach of the Mansfield Lake Ridge football team.
This past year Thor guided Lake Ridge to a 15-1 record and a spot in the 5A, Division I championship game, finishing as the state runner up. The remarkable season capped off an even more remarkable turnaround for Lake Ridge under Thor, whose took over a program that went 0-10 in his first season at the helm in 2012. The trip to the state title game was the first ever for Lake Ridge.
Both coaches will be honored at Austin College's annual Legends Gala, which will be held this year on Saturday, July 9 in Sid Richardson Gym on the campus of Austin College.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
