This past weekend, Austin College celebrated Legends Weekend, honoring several outstanding members of the Kangaroo family with the Joe Spencer Award for Meritorious Service and Lifetime Achievement in Coaching, the Kedric Couch Alumni Coach of the Year Award, and induction into the Austin College Athletics Hall of Honor.
Unfortunately, due to Saturday's storm and widespread power outage across Grayson County, that night's Legends Gala had to be canceled. However, members of the Austin College community and alumni gathered throughout the night at local hotels, which had gotten power restored, to celebrate the inductees and award winners with impromptu ceremonies, and on Sunday morning alumni and friends once again gathered for the Slats McCord Golf Tournament at Stone Creek Country Club.
"As is typical, the spirit of the Kangaroo Nation carried everyone through a difficult and challenging time," said Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics Tim Millerick. "On behalf of the college, I want to thank the inductees, their families, and friends who traveled to Sherman for their flexibility and understanding as we worked to find a way for everyone to gather in an alternative space."
Legends Weekend 2017 is now set for the weekend of August 4-6, and will once again take place on the campus of Austin College with more of our terrific and deserving alums soon to be recognized for their contributions to Kangaroo athletics. More information will be released, including next year's Hall of Honor class, as we get closer to the event.
Below are this year's Hall of Honor inductees and award winners, who we are thrilled to recognize for their contributions to Austin College athletics throughout the years.
