The Austin College men's and women's cross country teams are gearing up to compete in the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet, which will be held on Saturday morning in Georgetown.
Last season, the women's team too fourth place while the men finished in seventh when the 'Roos hosted the 2015 SCAC Championships. The Austin College women's team has had several strong finishes this season, including a fourth place finish at the OLLU Invite and fifth place finishes at the UD Invitational and the ETBU Meet.
Madison Galvan has led the way for Austin College in her first season, as the freshman runner finished fourth in the team's season opener at UT-Tyler's King Campbell Spectacular. Galvan took 12th at the Our Lady of the Lake meet, and had the second fastest time in program history in the 6K at the meet hosted by ETBU.
Eden Llamas, last year's top finisher for the 'Roos at the SCAC Championship, has also had a strong season. Llamas was Austin College's fastest finisher at the UD Invitational, coming in 18th with a time of 21:16.8, while Alex Quinn had a good showing with a 24th place finish. Haleigh Hahn has also had several outstanding performances this season.
On the men's side, Matthew Gregory has had a terrific freshman season, kicking things off with a 14th place finish at the King Campbell Spectacular. Gregory also had the third best time in program history at ETBU, coming in with a time of 28:36.8, besting his own personal best by 55 seconds. Trini Balkaran and Cody Meyers also performed well at ETBU.
The 'Roos took 8th overall at the UD Invitational, including second out of the three SCAC teams present, as Gregory finished 15th individually. Jeff Kubena, Jimmy Ding, and Meyers also ran well, as has been the case throughout the 2016 campaign.
