SHERMAN, Texas - As part of its ongoing Posey Speaker Series, Austin College will be hosting basketball legend Lisa Leslie for a pair of virtual events on October 22. The former WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist will be speaking on leadership in athletics at 11:00 a.m., and will then conduct a question and answer session for members of the 'Roo community, particularly geared toward student-athletes, at 12:15 p.m.
Leslie was a star at the University of Southern California before winning multiple WNBA championships with the Los Angeles Sparks, and was named the WNBA's most valuable player three times during her professional career. She also won four gold medals for the United States Olympic women's basketball team and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. Leslie was also inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame that same year. She has also worked as a commentator for ABC, NBC, and Fox Sports, and authored the book "Don't Let the Lipstick Fool You."
Both the first session, Leadership in Athletics and Beyond, and the following Q&A will be conducted via Zoom, with the latter being moderated by 'Roo women's basketball coach Michelle Filander as well as women's basketball player and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member Natalie McCoy.
Registration for both is now open and will continue until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, and the links for each Zoom call will be emailed the morning of October 22.
