Sweeping Changes to 'Roo Athletics Weekend Schedule

SHERMAN, Texas - In the wake of this week's historic winter storm, all Austin College athletics events have been either postponed, suspended, or canceled, the College has announced.

The 'Roos were set to be in action in football, men's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, softball, baseball, men's water polo, and men's and women's basketball both at home and on the road this weekend, but the extreme winter weather all across the region has altered all plans for those teams.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference has suspended all games across the conference through Monday, Febaruary 22, putting games for the basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams on hold, while there has also been a shift in the Southern Athletic Association schedule, with the 'Roo football team no longer set to play this weekend. Instead, the Austin College football team will play Millsaps next weekend on February 27, and then travel to Conway, Ark. to take on Hendrix on March 6. The 'Roos will no longer play a second game against Trinity this season.

The 'Roo softball team has canceled its weekend games in a tournament hosted by Hendrix, and those games will not be rescheduled. The Austin College baseball team was scheduled to play at Howard Payne this weekend as well, with those games now suspended with the potential to be made up later this year.

The Austin College tennis teams were also scheduled to be in action this weekend at Texas Wesleyan, with those matches now suspended as well. Men's water polo had originally been slated to travel to Erie, Pa. for games at Gannon University, and those games have also been suspended with the potential to be made up at a later date. 

Austin College baseball was scheduled to travel to Howard Payne for a weekend series, with those games now being suspended with the potential to be played later this season if open dates can be found for the two programs.

The 'Roo men's soccer team was slated to host Southwestern, while the basketball teams were set to host Centenary and volleyball was scheduled to travel to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary in SCAC action. Each of those contests is officially suspended, and the league office will look into potential make-up dates. At this time, no athletics activities will now take place until Monday, February 22 for any of the Austin College athletics programs.
