It's another busy week for Austin College athletics, with the softball team playing both at home and on the road while the baseball and women's water polo teams also head out of town this weekend. Plus, women's swimmer Sammi Thiele will be competing at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet.
It's another busy week for Austin College athletics, with the softball team playing both at home and on the road while the baseball and women's water polo teams also head out of town this weekend. Plus, women's swimmer Sammi Thiele will be competing at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet.
The 'Roo softball team opens things up with a home doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon against Eureka College, with game one set to begin at 3:00 p.m. After that, they'll open up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday as they head to Irving to take on the University of Dallas for a doubleheader at noon. They'll wrap up the weekend with another doubleheader against UD, also starting at noon.
The Austin College baseball team also opens up conference play this weekend in San Antonio, as they take on nationally-ranked Trinity University on Friday and Saturday. The 'Roos and Tigers open up the three game series with a single game at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, before playing a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
'Roo swimmer Sammi Thiele will make history as the first Austin College swimmer to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships, participating in the 100 backstroke. The SCAC and Austin College record-holder in that event will compete on Friday, with prelims beginning at 9:00 a.m. On Friday morning while finals are at 5:00 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. Thiele's event is the second to take place on Friday's docket.
After competing at the national championships, Thiele will join her women's water polo teammates in Illinois, where the 'Roos open up CWPA competition on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Against Wittenberg, and then the team will take on Macalester at 2:30 p.m. The 'Roos finish up the weekend on Sunday, taking on nationally ranked Augustana at 9:00 a.m.
