Spencer Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's soccer player Sam Spencer.

Spencer, a sophomore defender from Heath, had a big weekend for the 'Roos as Austin College opened the season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2017. Spencer was a key part of the team's success not just on defense, but also on the offensive side of the pitch as he scored the team's first goal of the season in a road victory at East Texas Baptist and also added an assist in Monday's home win over LeTourneau. After earning a spot as a starter in his first year of collegiate soccer, Spencer came out strong in his second season as the 'Roos tallied a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-best seven goals in the opening weekend of action while also being one of just four league teams to win each of their first two games.
