Three from 'Roo Men's Hoops Named All-SCAC
Austin College men's basketball players Josh Saunders, Ransom Okpala and Jordan Hancock have each been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers, the league office has announced.
Three members of the Austin College men's basketball team have been named as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for the 2011-2012 season, the league office announced from the SCAC Tournament in Birmingham this weekend. Josh Saunders earned 1st Team All-SCAC recognition to highlight the selections.
Saunders, a senior forward from Athens, was named to the 1st Team after finishing among the conference leaders in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage, blocked shots and steals. Saunders, who was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection as a junior, led the 'Roos with averages of 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks and finished second on the team with 2.3 assists per game.
Okpala, a sophomore guard from Katy, earned Honorable Mention status after finishing third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.7 points per game and finishing among the conference leaders with a .821 free throw percentage. He also shot .362 from three point range and was second on the team in steals, averaging 1.5 per game.
Hancock, a sophomore guard from Dallas, was named Honorable Mention this season, his second straight as an All-Conference performer. Last season as a freshman he was a 3rd Team honoree. Hancock finished fourth on the team in scoring with 9.2 points and averaged a team-best 2.9 assists per game, and shot .793 from the free throw line for the year.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
