Men's Soccer Picks Up Home Victory
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team scored once in each half to earn a 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon to wrap up Homecoming Weekend, as the 'Roos improve to 5-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play this year.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team scored once in each half to earn a 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon to wrap up Homecoming Weekend, as the 'Roos improve to 5-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play this year.
The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes of action, before a Sam Spencer throw-in deep into the box found its way to the foot of Pierce Wear, who ripped a shot from straight on into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game at the 22:31 mark and that's where things stood heading into halftime. Austin College controlled the action throughout the game's first 45 minutes, firing 10 shots while limiting the Crusaders to one attempt.
Austin College doubled its lead early in the second half, with Marco Guzman tallying just under five minutes into the frame to make it 2-0, and that's how things would finish. The 'Roos had several opportunites to pad its lead late, but saw several shot attempts go just wide or hit the post as they took 17 shots after the break. Austin College finished the game with a 27-5 shot advantage, including 5-1 in shots on goal. Patrick Bassett made one save to get the clean sheet, while Malachi Varghese had three saves for the Crusaders.
