SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe LeTourneau University on Friday evening as the 'Roos celebrated Senior Night, bringing the 'Roos to 7-6-3 overall and 6-3-2 in conference play heading into next weekend's SCAC Tournament in Round Rock.
The Jackets struck early in the match, going on top 1-0 in the 12th minute of action when Bridge Mwambukiri tallied on assists from Caleb Nelson and Elias Arreguin, but Austin College countered just over 15 minutes later when Luis Garza-Rios ripped a shot into the back of the net to make it 1-1, and that's where things would stand at the end of the opening frame. The 'Roos outshot the Jackets 5-2 in the first 45 minutes of action, and finished the match with a 12-10 edge with both teams putting three shots on target.
After scoring 11:42 minutes into the opening half, LeTourneau did almost exactly the same in the second as Arreguin found the back of the net on a feed from Nelson at the 56:41 mark, just 11:41 out of the break. That wound up being the decisive tally in the match, as Austin College was unable to equalize in the final half hour of action. Patrick Bassett made one save in goal for Austin College, while Edson Camara Martinez had a pair of stops for the Jackets.
Austin College will now await results from around the SCAC on Saturday to find out who they'll be facing in the opening round of the conference championships next week.
