Austin College Softball Notches First Win of 2026

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Austin College softball team exploded for nine runs in the first three innings to secure its first victory of the 2026 season, defeating LeTourneau University 11-4 on Friday afternoon in Longview. With the win, the 'Roos are now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

After LeTourneau opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, Austin College responded with a productive second inning that saw the 'Roos scored four runs. Jadyn Myers provided a key RBI double, and Cheyenne Fields drove in two runs with a single to left field to ignite the offense. Jillian Kelly capped the scoring with a single to plate Fields.

The 'Roos broke the game open in the third inning with a five-run outburst. After Reagan Brinkley led off with a double, the 'Roos loaded the bases through walks and hits. Tori Fowler delivered the decisive blow of the frame, a two-RBI single up the middle that extended the lead to 9-1.

LeTourneau attempted to respond in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs aided by an Austin College error, but the 'Roo pitching and defense limited further damage. Cassidy Cantera entered in relief in the fourth inning and was dominant, pitching four scoreless frames and allowing only three hits to earn her first collegiate win.

Tori Fowler led the 'Roos at the dish, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Fields finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Myers added a double and two RBIs. Brinkley finished the day 2-for-5 with a double. Lauren Trott started for the 'Roos, pitching three innings before Cantera's relief appearance. Bree Brege took the loss for LeTourneau after giving up four earned runs in 1.2 innings of work.
