The 'Roos are now 4-10 overall and 4-8 against conference competition.
Reagan Brinkley put Austin College ahead 1-0 in the top of the first with a solo homer, but that was the only run of the game for the 'Roos after taking that narrow lead into the second. The Celts put four runs across in the bottom of the second frame to grab a 4-1 lead, highlighted by an RBI double from Olivia Sanchez, and Viviana Vargas added a run-scoring double of her own in the third to make it 5-1.
St. Thomas managed to put the game fully out of reach in the fourth, erupting for seven runs in the inning, with Chloe Bennett driving in two runs, Vargas adding a two-run double, and Maegan Anderson capping the scoring by driving in two more with another double to make it 12-1 and that's how things would end in the run-rule shortened game.
Along with Brinkley, Jillian Kelly, Ashlynn Brothers, and Lauren Trott each had a hit as the 'Roos were limited to five in the game by Victoria Sossaman, who went the distance in the circle to earn the win for UST. Madi McGowan took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in an inning of action. The two teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday with a twinbill beginning at noon.
