Wheeler, a freshman from Southlake, broke four Austin College records at last week's Western Shootout meet held in her hometown. Wheeler placed second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.45 and 50 freestyle with a time of 25.02, and also placed fourth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:54.76 and led off the 400 free relay with a time of 54.67, the second fastest flat start time at the meet.
All four of those times bested the previous Kangaroo women's swimming marks. Wheeler's time in the 200 backstroke was nearly five seconds faster than the previous record, while she broke the 50 freestyle record twice over the course of the weekend.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
