ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College distance track team got the season off to a strong start with several outstanding performances on both the men's and women's side despite winds of up to 30 miles-per-hour at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational on Saturday.
On the women's side, Danielle Lozano finished fifth in the 5000 meter event, crossing with a time of 22:13.05, while Abigail Morgan added a 12th place finish in the 800 meter, coming in with a time of 3:27.99. Jessica Hoffman also performed well in the 1500 meter race, running with a time of 6:31.90 to place 15th.
For the men, both RJ Navarro and Andrew Thomas went under the Austin College record in the 5000 meter, with Navarro finishing with a time of 17:18.55 to place fifth and Thomas crossing the line with a time of 17:25.76, good for seventh. Chris Biffar added an eighth place finish in the 1500 meter event, coming inw ith a time of 4:39.91, and Navarro placed 10th in that race with a time of 4:40.90. Johnny Biffar added an 11th place finish in the 1500 meter, coming in with a time of 4:41.31, while Charlie McIntyre and Thomas added 13th and 15th place finishes in that race, respectively.
