Matthews Named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

SUWANEE, Ga. - Austin College women's basketball player Brooklyn Matthews has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after guiding the 'Roos to a 2-0 conference weekend that helped vault the team into first place in the SCAC Blue Division, the league office has announced.

Matthews, a senior forward from Conroe, was a force on the interior in lifting the 'Roos to a pair of SCAC victories, with wins over Hendrix and Ozarks, averaging 2.5 blocks per game and 7.0 rebounds, including 4.5 defensive rebounds a night. Matthews had two blocks against Hendrix and three more against Ozarks, and seven of her nine boards in the win over the Eagles came on the defensive glass. This is the second SCAC weekly award of the year for Matthews, who earned Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.
