Austin College Celebrates Senior Night with SCAC Victory

The victory improves the 'Roos to 13-10 overall and 10-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The contest began as a defensive struggle, with the 'Roos holding a narrow 11-6 lead after the first period. Austin College found its offensive rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Schreiner 19-11. Miller ignited the surge with a layup at the 4:42 mark to push the lead to 20-8, followed by a series of buckets that helped the 'Roos enter halftime with a 30-17 advantage.
Schreiner, now 4-19 overall, attempted to climb back in the third quarter behind the perimeter shooting of Brie Sosa. Sosa hit a pair of three-pointers, including one at the 2:14 mark, to trim the deficit to 36-27. However, Austin College answered with a layup from Maya Dodson at the 1:56 mark to maintain a double-digit cushion heading into the final frame.
The 'Roos sealed the win in the fourth quarter with an efficient inside game. Miller continued her scoring pace with a layup at the 9:44 mark, and Trinity Williams added a fast-break layup with 1:49 remaining to push the lead to 55-41. Kaylee Lewis capped the scoring with a layup on a feed from Avery Rague in the final seconds to give Austin College its largest lead of the night at 17 points.
Miller's 19 points came on 7-of-14 shooting, complemented by a 5-of-6 performance at the free-throw line. Trinity Williams was just shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points, while Dodson contributed seven points and seven rebounds. Brooklyn Matthews anchored the defensive effort with five rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Schreiner was led by Sosa and Nevaeh Gray, who each finished with 12 points. Gray also added two rebounds and a steal, while Lynnashia Brooks reached double figures on the glass with 10 rebounds. The Mountaineers struggled with ball security, committing 17 turnovers which Austin College converted into 13 points.
Austin College shot 43.4% from the field and controlled the paint, outscoring Schreiner 42-22 in the lane. The 'Roos also held a 39-32 rebounding advantage in the win. Austin College wraps up the regular season on the road next weekend, as they head to Arkansas to take on Hendrix and Ozarks before preparing for the SCAC Tournament the following week.
