SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team dropped its opening game of the 2025 campaign to visiting Wayland Baptist on Friday night at the Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex, falling 2-0 to the Pioneers.
Things were even through most of the opening half until Wayland Baptist broke through in the 25th minute, getting an unassisted goal from Cecilia Lopez to make it a 1-0 game. Austin College was unable to counter before the break, as the 'Roos were limited to a pair of first half shot attempts. The second half saw Austin College come to life a bit more on offense, but the 'Roos were unable to put any attempts on target despite five shots in the period.
Wayland Baptist doubled its lead in the 73rd minute of play on a tally by Aniyah Perez to make it 2-0, and that would be enough to put the game away for the Pioneers. WBU finished with 10 shot attempts compared to seven for the 'Roos, with four shots on goal for the Pioneers and none for Austin College. Amanda Zyla made a pair of stops in net for Austin College. The 'Roos are back in action on Saturday when they host the Lyon College Scots at 6:00 p.m.
