SHERMAN, Texas - After a scoreless first half against visiting Lyon College, the Austin College women's soccer team erupted for a trio of second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory over the Scots at Jerry E. Apple Stadium on Saturday night, bringing the 'Roos to 1-1 overall on the year.
Lyon threatened early with a shot off the crossbar, but the Austin College defense clamped down, limiting the Scots to just two more shots the rest of the game, while the 'Roos fired 22 attempts including eight on goal. The 'Roos couldn't find the back of the goal in the opening 45 minutes, but it didn't take long into the second half to get the offense going as Sarae Perez threaded a pass through to Laney Lambert, who fired it home in the 54th minute to make it a 1-0 game.
Just five minutes later, Lambert drew a penalty kick, and Rylie Balderas went bottom left at the 58:41 mark to make it a 2-0 game. That remained the score until the 77th minute, when Lily Davidson lofted a pass into the box and Myles McGaha headed it inside the right post to put Austin College on top 3-0 and that's how things would end. Kieran McFarland earned the win in her first collegiate start in goal, stopping the lone shot she faced, while Jessie Stauffer made five saves for Lyon in the loss.
