LONGVIEW, Texas - After an early defensive hiccup that resulted in a goal by Texas College in the opening minutes, the Austin College women's soccer team took full control on its way to a 4-1 victory in the first road match of the season for the 'Roos. Austin College is now 2-1 overall on the year.
Austin College dominated possession for the bulk of the match, but Texas College managed to earn its one and only corner kick of the game five minutes in and the Steers took advantage, with Abigail Escobedo punching in the kick from Fatima Akif at the 5:23 mark to take a 1-0 lead. However, Austin College began to assert control after that and evened things up on a tally by Jetta Broquard in the 14th minute.
The score remained 1-1 until the 31:12 mark when Sarae Perez blasted a shot into the back of the net, sending the 'Roos into halftime with a 2-1 lead. Broquard put Austin College in the scoring column for the second time at the 66:35 mark, taking a feed from Myles McGaha to make it 3-1, and Emeri Watson rounded out the scoring in the 74th minute on a pass from Lynna Martin to make it 4-1, and that's how things would end.
Austin College out-shot Texas College 40-2 in the match, putting 16 attempts on target. Amanda Zyla got the victory in goal for the 'Roos, while Alexa Rodriguez made 12 saves for Texas College.
