Austin College Women Defeat UST, Men Split Results in Dual Meet
SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College swimming teams hosted the University of St. Thomas Celts for a dual meet on Saturday afternoon in Hannah Natatorium. The 'Roos split the decision against their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents, with the women's team earning a decisive victory and the men's team falling in the final team standings.
SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College swimming teams hosted the University of St. Thomas Celts for a dual meet on Saturday afternoon in Hannah Natatorium. The 'Roos split the decision against their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents, with the women's team earning a decisive victory and the men's team falling in the final team standings.
The Austin College women accumulated 147 points to defeat the visiting Celts, who finished with 57 points. In the men's competition, St. Thomas claimed the win with a score of 141.5 compared to 97.5 for Austin College. Lola Barcus-Schafer anchored the women's effort with three individual victories, taking first place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 36.25 and claimed the 100-yard breaststroke title in 1:18.76. Barcus-Schafer also won the 100-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 1:08.27.
Rachel Delk also secured three individual gold medals for the 'Roos. Delk swept the backstroke events, winning the 50-yard backstroke in 31.47 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.92. She added a victory in the sprint freestyle, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 28.19.
Lili Clepper contributed two individual wins, finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.00 and taking the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly in 29.60. The women's team also saw victories from Sophia Smith in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.35 and Joslyn Dimitri in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.95.
In relay action, the women's team opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Delk, Dimitri, Clepper, and Barcus-Schafer combined for a time of 4:20.85. The 'Roos closed the meet with a victory in the 3x100 freestyle relay, where the team of Smith, Mikayla Arizmendi, and Dimitri clocked a time of 3:08.75. On the men's side, Matthew Leeworthy led the scoring with a sweep of the breaststroke disciplines. Leeworthy won the 50-yard breaststroke in 27.83 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.22.
Hudson Seavers-Reale and Colin Stewart added wins in the backstroke events for the men. Seavers-Reale took first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.03, while Stewart won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.36. Flyn Hughes earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.80. The men's quartet of Stewart, Leeworthy, Hughes, and Kamil Murugan combined to win the opening 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:41.39.
