Women's Tennis Undefeated To Close Out Fall Season
7-2 victory over TAMU-T moves Kangaroos to 1-0
SHERMAN, Tex. - The visiting Texas A&M University - Texarkana Eagles passed through the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center and collected a defeat at the hands of the Austin College Women's Tennis Team.
The Kangaroos jumped all over the Eagles from the start, sweeping doubles and getting revenge on common opponents from a matchup just two weeks ago in Richardson.
Carlye Lide and Katie Barber didn't waste any time drawing first blood, winning the first 7-games en route to an 8-2 victory.
Grace Ortiz and Kirsten Weber got themselves in a hole early against a team that defeated them 8-2 at the UT-Dallas Invitational this fall. But the stellar duo from the 2016 Spring Campaign found a way to grab a lead and hold on, winning 8-5.
Anna Sergiovanni and Katie Seibert had quite a different experience; getting a large 7-2 lead early, and dropping the last 6 games to find themselves on a brink of a defeat. But the talented freshmen snapped out of it, pulling out a 9-8 (4) victory to complete the sweep.
Sergiovanni and Seibert lost 1-game between their 4 sets in singles, and Anamariia Kheveli's victory at Line 5 singles clinched the victory for the 'Roos to send them undefeated into the fall offseason.
Shelby Bagby also picked up her first college tennis victory, 8-6 in exhibition over an opponent that defeated her at the UT-Dallas Invitational.
Austin College is off until February 11th when they will host Texas Wesleyan to open up their Spring 2016 campaign.
