Austin College Tennis Falls at Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Schreiner University on Friday, with the women falling 5-2 while the men were bested 7-0.
KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Schreiner University on Friday, with the women falling 5-2 while the men were bested 7-0.
On the women's side, the Mountaineers took two of out three in doubles play to earn the point and head into singles competition leading 1-0, with the flight one pairing of Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle dropping a 6-3 match while Bailey Standokes and Emma Davison also went down by a score of 6-3 on line two. Karsyn Clouse and Lauren Hofeldt picked up a 6-2 win on line three.
Standokes was defeated 3-6, 2-6 on line one in singles, while Davison battled but dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 2-6 line four match, Valle was topped 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 on line five, and Hofeldt went down by a score of 3-6, 2-6 on line six. Austin College picked up two points on lines two and three, with Sanchez earning a 6-0, 6-3 win playing number two while Clouse won her line three match 6-4, 6-4.
For the men, Schreiner took a 1-0 lead after doubles play, as the teams split on lines one and two but the Mountaineers clinched doubles with a win by defeault on line three. Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner won their line one match in decisive fashion, coming up with a 6-0 victory, but Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga were toppled 6-1 on line two.
In singles competition, Salyer dropped his line one match 6-7 (2-7), 0-6, and Fenner was topped 1-6, 2-6 on line two. Colunga fell 3-6, 2-6 on line three, and Rocha was defeated 0-6, 0-6 on line four. The Mountaineers picked up wins by default on lines five and six.
