Austin College Tennis Splits SCAC Match with Ozarks
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams split their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match with the University of the Ozarks, with the women picking up a 5-2 win while the men fell 6-1.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams split their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match with the University of the Ozarks, with the women picking up a 5-2 win while the men fell 6-1.
The 'Roo women got off to a strong start sweeping doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles, with the number one team of Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle and the number two team of Bailey Standokes and Emma Davidson both winning 6-0. Karsyn Clouse and Lauren Hofeldt rounded out double scoring on line three, winning 6-4.
Standokes earned a 6-0, 6-3 win in singles competition and Sanchez battled to a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 flight two victory. Clouse was bested 4-6, 1-6 on line three and Davidson dropped a 5-7, 3-6 line four match, but Valle picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win on line five, and Hofeldt capped off singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win on line six.
On the men's side, the 'Roos defaulted on line three in doubles play, and the team of Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner dropped a 6-3 line one match. Joel Colunga and Cruz Rocha were topped 6-0 on line two, as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into singles action.
Salyer got a point for Austin College on line one, picking up a 6-4, 6-3 victory, but Fenner fell 1-6, 0-6 on line two, Colunga dropped a 4-6, 3-6 line three match, and Rocha was defeated 0-6, 1-6 on line four. Austin College defaulted on lines five and six, making it a 6-1 final score to the Eagles.
Austin College wraps up the regular season on Saturday morning against Howard Payne, with the men and women set to take the court at home for the last time this year at 9:00 a.m.
