BELTON, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team earned a hardfought 0-0 draw on the road at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the preseason pick to finish second in the American Southwest Conference, bringing the 'Roos to 2-1-1 overall on the year.
Mary Hardin-Baylor controlled possession for much of the game, out-shooting Austin College 15-to-1 in the opening half and 24-to-3 overall, but Austin College's defense was relentless in turning the Crusaders away and keeping the game scoreless. Meela Stubbs and Kieran McFarland combined for the shutout, with Stubbs making two saves while McFarland stopped three shots.
The Crusaders managed to put six shots on target overall, while Emeri Watson had the best opportunity to find the back of the net for Austin College, taking a cross from Laney Lambert and nearly tallying. However, UMHB keeper Morgan Oliver managed to punch the ball over the crossbar to keep the 'Roos off the scoreboard. Austin College had one final opportunity in the closing seconds but were unable to get a shot on frame following a free kick with 15 seconds remaining.
Austin College heads out on the road for another non-conference match this weekend, traveling to Jackson, Miss., to take on Millsaps College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
