ABILENE, Texas - After taking a scoreless game into halftime, McMurry erupted for four second half goals to hand the Austin College women's soccer team a 4-0 defeat on Friday evening in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference competition. The 'Roos are now 3-4-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams limited in their scoring chances and taking the game into the break with the game square at 0-0. McMurry took five shots in the first 45 minutes, while the 'Roos had two attempts. Three first half shots for the War Hawks were on target, while one of Austin College's two attempts was put on frame. However, McMurry clamped down in the second half and came alive on offense after halftime, holding the 'Roos to one shot while firing 12 of their own, finally breaking through in the 50th minute with a goal by Madison Black to make it 1-0.
That reamined the score until the 68:45 mark, when Laila Brown tallied, and the margin grew to 3-0 four minutes later on a goal by Halin Griffith. The War Hawks tacked on one more score in the 82nd minute, this time from Keeli Villareal to make it a 4-0 final. Amanda Zyla had five saves for Austin College, while McMurry's Avery Anders stopped both of Austin College's shots on goal. The 'Roos are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Kerrville to take on Schreiner at noon.
