Women's Soccer Holds Off Centenary for Road Victory
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's soccer team tallied early and used a tenacious defensive effort to hold off Centenary College for a 1-0 road victory on Sunday in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The 'Roos are now 5-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference action.
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's soccer team tallied early and used a tenacious defensive effort to hold off Centenary College for a 1-0 road victory on Sunday in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The 'Roos are now 5-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference action.
Centenary controlled possession early, out-shooting the 'Roos 5-1 in the opening minutes of play, but Austin College made their first shot count as Laney Lambert found Emeri Watson for a tally right in front of the net to make it a 1-0 game at the 5:49 mark. Austin College slowly started to assert control for the rest of the half, limiting the Ladies to just two more shots in the frame and taking a one goal lead into the break.
Austin College continued to put pressure on in the second half, firing nine shots, but the 'Roos were unable to get an insurance goal over the course of the final 45 minutes. The 'Roos were able to maintain their thin led thanks to a stellar performance defensively, repeatedly turning Centenary away, and Kieran McFarland stopped all three shots on goal in the second half. McFarland finished with four saves to earn the clean sheet, as Austin College ended the game with a 14-12 shot advantage.
Austin College is back home on Sunday to wrap up Homecoming Weekend, taking on the University of Dallas at noon in another SCAC match.
