ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Thursday afternoon at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, as the No. 5-seeded 'Roos fell 3-0 to No. 4-seed Concordia University-Texas. The 'Roos finish the season with a record of 7-6-3.
Concordia controlled the action early, limiting Austin College's attack in the game's first half while holding the 'Roos to just four shot attempts. Austin College's defense held until the 29th minute, when Emma Payne put the Tornados on the scoreboard with a goal off of an assist from Shelby Jones, and just over four minutes later, the CTX lead grew to 2-0 as Haley Lopez punched in a shot off of a corner kick, and that's where things stood heading into halftime.
Austin College came out as the aggressor in the second half, launching 13 shot attempts in the game's final 45 minutes, but Concordia kept the 'Roos off the board while adding one more tally of their own as Payne scored again at the 74:20 mark to make it 3-0. Tatum Winn, who also assisted on the second goal of the game for Concordia, provided the helper for Payne's second score to put the game out of reach. Concordia finished the game with a narrow 19-17 edge in shot attempts, including 11-8 in shots on goal. Kieran McFarland and Amanda Zyla split time in goal for the 'Roos, with McFarland making one first half save while Zyla stopped six shots in the second half, and Concordia's Avery Wright had eight saves for the Tornados.
