SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's water polo team is headed to New London, Conn., this week to compete in the 2024 CWPA Division III Tournament, with the 'Roos set to get into the pool on Friday afternoon against Penn State Behrend in the opening round of competition.
The 'Roos enter the CWPA Tournament as the No. 3-seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 6-10 overall, including 6-2 against CWPA opponents. Austin College, currently ranked No. 9 nationally, fell only twice against Division III opponents this season, with those defeats coming against top-seeded Augustana and second-seeded Macalester. The 'Roos defeated their first round opponent, PSB, by a score of 20-9 in the lone meeting between the two teams this year, with Cory McGrath tallying six goals in the victory.
Austin College and PSB will get into the pool at 3:00 p.m. (CDT) on Friday, with the winner advancing to Saturday, where they'll face the winner of Macalester and No. 7-seed Carthage. The loser of Friday's matchup will face the losing team from that game. Austin College and Macalester went down to the wire in the lone meeting between the teams during the regular season, with Macalester coming out on top by a score of 12-11, while the 'Roos defeated Carthage 10-7 on the same day at a CWPA event in late March.
This year's tournament is being hosted by Connecticut College, with live video and results available on the official tournament website.
