'Roo Softball Drops Two to Southwestern
The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two. The 'Roos are now 5-24 overall this season.
In game one the 'Roos fell behind 1-0 in the first, and in the bottom half the 'Roos put runners in scoring position but were unable to capitalize. Southwestern added a run in the second and then a pair in the fourth and were able to keep the 'Roos at bay the rest of the way, holding Austin College to just one hit over the final six innings.
Charlotte Trudell and Jessica Baker had the only two hits for Austin College, and Sophia Hernandez took the loss, allowing four runs in 5.0 innings of work.
In game two, the Pirates plated three runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead and the 'Roos were unable to recover despite getting a solo home run from Chelsea Delaney in the sixth inning. Baker went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and Delaney went 1-for-2 with her first career homer and also drew a walk in the loss. Sam Matulis took the loss for the 'Roos.
Austin College and Southwestern will wrap up their series tomorrow with another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. as the 'Roos celebrate Senior Day.
