2013 Kangaroo Softball Season Recap
It was a bit of a tough season for first year head coach Andrea Vangoss and the Austin College softball team, as the team finished 11-30 overall with a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 6-9.
It was a bit of a tough season for first year head coach Andrea Vangoss and the Austin College softball team, as the team finished 11-30 overall with a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 6-9. Nine members of the team were named All-Conference for their performances in 2013.
The season got off to a tough start, with the 'Roos dropping 21 of their first 24 games before splitting a series with conference foe Centenary in April. The 'Roos closed out the regular season strong, sweeping their final regular season series with the University of Dallas.
The 'Roos would once again top Dallas in the SCAC Tournament opening round, and after falling to Trinity in the second round, the 'Roos defeated the Crusaders again. The team saw its season come to a close, falling to eventual champion Southwestern in the tournament semifinals.
Jessica Baker was named 1st Team All-SCAC after finishing second in the league with a .447 batting average and adding 17 doubles, two homers, 24 runs batted in, and 15 stolen bases. Briana Hernandez and Sophia Hernandez each earned 2nd Team All-SCAC honors in their first seasons at Austin College. Briana Hernandez batted .286 and belted seven home runs while driving in 28 runs, while Sophia Hernandez hit .354 with six homers and also led the team with six pitching victories.
Charlotte Trudell was also a 2nd Team All-SCAC selection after hitting .311 and leading the league with five triples, and Chelsea Delaney, Jenny Dowsey, Heather Farquhar, Mallory Rossmann, and Taylor Steelman were each named Honorable Mention All-SCAC.
Delaney hit .269 with four homers, Dowsey had two doubles and scored 11 runs, and Farquhar hit .318 with three doubles and a homer. Rossmann had four doubles and 10 RBI, and Steelman hit .262 with seven RBI and 13 runs scored.
